Breakfast for Two

It was a real nice way to start the day. Big fluffy bed, warm fireplace, and cozy bathrobes. And breakfast! I used to write about hotels. And my favorite part was never the dinners or the bars or the spa, but always, breakfast. I’m not even a morning person, but I’ll wake for a nice breakfast, especially one delivered to the foot of your bed.

This was at SingleThread in Healdsburg. Shall we dig in?

Drinks first. Iced almond milk matcha latte…

…a pretty close to perfect glass of fresh squeezed orange juice…

…cappuccino…

…and apple, kiwi, spinach, ginger smoothie. Extra ginger, please.

There were two breakfast sets at the table. Japanese Breakfast and Sonoma Breakfast.

Sonoma Breakfast included this dish with persimmons, housemade yogurt and granola, greens with kabocha squash hummus (my favorite item on the plate!), and Sonoma cheese and charcuterie…

…pickles…

….winter citrus and…

…kinako crepes with honey.

Next, the Japanese Breakfast. Roasted pumpkin and pumpkin seed donabe rice…

…with mizozuke king salmon. You can also spot the dashimaki tamago in the back.

Housemade tofu and miso soup…

….housemade tsukemono…

…vegetable salad in sesame dressing…

…and the most wonderful part of the meal, fresh yuba and barrel aged ponzu.

A few extra sides including barrel-smoked bacon (from Journeyman Meat Co. located right next door)…

….a warm porridge of Sonoma grains with fig jam and amazake…

…and scones with pear and almonds. Lemon curd on the side. And then we go, off to start the day ^-^

P.S. Other bits, if you stay for dinner, the non-alcoholic pairings are a dream! And other treats to look out for in the room…these itty bitty pumpkin cakes (how do they bake them so perfectly?) and…

…rocky road ice cream (check the freezer).
