24 hours on the island of Kauai starts with…
Can’t even remember the last time I had real saimin.
One bowl of the special (comes with won ton, char siu, kamaboko, bok choy, boiled eggs, green onions, and ham)…
…and a slice of lilikoi pie.
From there, it’s a 30-minute drive to Kauai Kookie Kompany.
You can find some of their cookie on Oahu…but only at this location can you get Banzai Cookies which has furikare, arare, and sake (!) mixed into the batter. Super crunchy, single biters
Across the street from Kauai Kookie Kompany is Wong’s.
Home of the lilikoi chiffon pie.
Won’t you take a look at that o_O
The lilikoi flavor here is more pure and the texture is lighter, but I also love the somewhat velvety texture of the one at Hamura’s. Too hard to pick! You just gotta have both.
Back on the other side of the street is the original locations of Lappert’s.
I love Lapperts! This is their signature flavor, the Kauai Pie. Kona coffee ice cream base with coconut flakes, dark chocolate fudge, and vanilla cake crunch.
And then we drove to Original Jo Jo’s Anuenue Shave Ice & Treats.
So many menu options. Let’s keep it simple with three flavors.
Lilikoi, lychee, and…
…crazy intense li hing mui!! It was like the usual li hing mui syrup PLUS pureed wet li hing mui covering the top. Wish someone would convince Waiola’s to do this.
And then to Aunty Lilikoi for lilikoi butter. They also make lilikoi chiffon pie but I was running low on stomach space. Maybe one day we can do a Kauai Lilikoi Chiffon Pie Round-Up?
We drove back north and stopped by Kountry Kitchen and Ono Family Restaurant. It was 4pm and both were closed…
….but then we found Duane’s Ono-Char Burger in Anahola!
Bit of a wait but worth it.
Fries, cheddar burger, and avocado sandwich.
Later that night we drove to the very end of the island (you can’t actually circle the whole island), and then back to Princeville. Dinner at the bar of the St. Regis. Gotta return for afternoon tea next time.
Up early the next morning…
…with a stop at the The Coconut Cup on the way to the airport.
Kale, pineapple, celery, cilantro, and ginger. And back in Honolulu in time for lunch with grandma ^_^
