Three nights in Miami. Three delicious dinners with Allen ^_^

First! A midnight stop at Gigi

…for brussels sprouts and cauliflower fried with bacon and sweet soy.

Greens dressed in miso, complete with eggs, edamame, and sprouts.

Cobia, grilled and served with black bean sauce and rice.

And pork chops topped with tomato mojo, zucchini, shallots, garlic, and cilantro.

Coconut cake for dessert ^_^

Second! Dinner at The Cypress Room. This was my favorite of the three nights.

We did the five course tasting. This started with atlantic tuna crudo and watermelon radishes, lime, ikura, and caviar.

Seared foie gras and the juiciest compressed pineapples. Heaven!

Grouper with brusselkale. The photo came out terrible but this was beautiful dish. Not brussels AND kale. But brusselkale…a hybrid vegetable grown by a local homesteader. Looks like kale, tastes like brussels. That was wild. More info on brusselkale here. It also goes by the name lolipop kale.

Ribeye cap, rare with haricot verts and lila onions.

For dessert, pistachio crème brûlée with a strawberry-tarragon salad and pecan tuile.

A super coconut cake with white chocolate crémeaux, pineapples, liquorice, and lime ice.

And coffee macarons.

On the third night we went to Michael’s Genuine Food & Drink. I visited the Grand Cayman location two years ago and have been wanting to try the Miami original since.

We started with roasted double yolk farm eggs. All melty and rich with gruyere, roasted tomatoes, and chives. Sourdough crostini on top.

Then we had a beet and heirloom tomato salad with hearts of palm, green beans, and blue cheese. All dressed in a walnut vinaigrette.

And then…a giant three pound snapper for two (though it could have fed four) roasted in the wood oven.

It came stuffed with grilled lemon slices and liberally salted with smoked fleur de sel. Roasted fennel on the side…

…and a side of brussels sprouts and pancetta with lemon aioli.

Then it’s time for dessert! Strawberries with housemade crème fraîche and honey on the left. And basil panna cotta with strawberry consomme on the right.

What did we do during the day? Matcha in the morning and beach in the afternoon. It was very good weekend ^_^
